Our task as the Women’s
Ministries Board is to train leaders; for our churches and someday our
positions, so that together we can effectively meet the groups’ goals.
Jesus spent three years training His disciples for their life-long ministries.
Paul reminded the Christians in Ephesus that those whom God gifted to lead were
to equip others for services. Eph 4:12 “For the equipping the saints for
the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ”.
To encourage means
literally to “call to one’s side”. You encourage others when you stand
alongside them for a time to comfort and assist.
To qualify is to meet
certain expectations related to being a follower of Christ. These include
the person’s spiritual condition and a willingness to be a servant to
others. To qualify also means to know whether or not a person is
competent for the ministry she has been asked to do.
Paul was Timothy’s
mentor. Paul trained Timothy as they traveled together (Acts
16:1-5). When Paul felt Timothy was qualified to do ministry without him,
the missionary left Timothy in Ephesus to lead the church (1 Tim 1:3).
Paul later wrote the young pastor and told him to entrust what he learned from
him to faithful men who would also “be qualified to teach others” (II Tim 2:2)
To understand a person’s
need is to observe her as she does ministry. Another way to understand
the need of those you equip is to listen.
Instructing is part of
leading. Followers need to know what is expected of them and how to do
the task assigned to them.
There is power in
prayer! Leaders are helpless without the prayers of others. These
prayers may be all that keeps them standing in times of struggle and conflict.
We need to E.Q.U.I.P
others: Find someone to help you mentor them.
Encourage them to serve
Qualify them for service
Understand their need
Instruct them
Pray for them
